First post.....
This is the original unedited letter.....

Editor,

First off I would like the title of this letter to read “Buckets of mass destruction”. The other day I went for a walk, I usually park on Ocean Avenue and walk down the path towards the ocean then veer south to the beach. I do this not to be an (enter expletive here) nor as an act of civil disobedience but because I am a creature of habit and have been walking the same route for years. Suddenly, Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) called out my name as he was walking after me. He knows who I am as we have both lived here most of our lives. So I stopped to see what he wanted. He informed me that I had walked on Condo property and it was designated NO TRESPASSING. I was confused because I was on the outside of the chain link fence. I told him to put up NO TRESPASSING signs. He said he had but someone had taken them down. There are still no signs posted at the Condos by the Sea as of the last time I walked there.

I would like to set the record straight as to Mike Coverdale’s letter to the editor in last weeks paper. As for me being a member of FOGH, I have never claimed to be a member of FOGH and a membership list has to my knowledge never been published. Simply because no FOGH member would like to have his name and business trashed in the paper by Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) the way my family and I have been. Me or my dad never carry buckets while walking………Buckets are heavy and awkward to carry. If we ever did walk on the proposed Links golf course property it was before it was posted.

Which brings me to an interesting fact. Both sides of the walkway that abuts the Links property is now NO TRESPASSING. So much for public access. Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) will probably write saying it is only NO TRESPASSING to Brady and Korry, FOGH members, locals or whomever he disagrees with at the moment. When a property is posted NO TRESPASSING it is off limits to the public. Period.

I have never heard of Oyster Loop road. The road Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) refers to in his letter is called Oyster Place. It has been called that since 911 was adopted. Before that it was the old state highway. It is not vacated. As far as fishing under the bridge, just ask the thousands of people who park in our parking lot, use our restroom and go fishing every year. We encourage people to come to Brady’s Oysters and do everything we can to facilitate them. I think - the plan - of any retail business is to get people to come and buy what it is selling and have an enjoyable experience. That is why you will never see a NO TRESPASSING sign at BRADY’S OYSTERS .

As far as the golf course increasing access, anyone who has lived in Westport for more than a few years can remember we used to have a beach approach next to where the Condos by the Sea sits. The beach approach was the oldest beach access in Westport originally used by the Coast Guard. Now, Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) has informed me it is NO TRESPASSING. To me at least.

The tractors at Brady’s Oysters run on diesel, not gasoline. Brady’s Oysters has not used Carbryl for over four years. If the Golf course is built, Carbryl will be used along with too many other toxic chemicals to list here. Ask anyone who has maintained a golf course. The golf course sits partially on the City of Westport’s watershed. The water table is less than a foot below the surface in winter. These toxic chemicals will be pumped into our water system. The runoff will drain into the Bay near the airport.

Back to the buckets of mass destruction. Who were the City of Westport employees that claimed to see me and my Dad? Did they report to the Police Dept. (if so there should be a record of it) or Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) ? If they reported to Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) then as a City of Westport Citizen who pays them with my taxes I would like to know. I have a right to know who has accused me and my Dad of carrying buckets illegally. Why was I not contacted by Barb Aue, the editor of the paper, and asked my side of the story?

To sum up: Most of what Mike Coverdale (Windermere Real Estate Broker) wrote in his letter is untrue. I can verify my statements with written documentation. Should we trust what he has written in the past or writes in the future?

So if you walk on the walkway at the beach don’t stray off the path because the condo police are watching.
